LFW AW17

London Fashion Week for Autumn Winter 2017

I thought I'd break that down as the text 'SS16' on my lookbook has some people thinking (obviously not the fashionistas). A fashion designers collections are presented almost a year ahead, although if Tom Ford changes anything it will be a see-now-buy-now set-up. The clothes that paraded runways this week are intended for next winter. Yemzi has not yet shown an A/W collection but we plan to for AW18, just typing that is quite exciting!

Whilst buying right off of the models back sounds convenient, as a conscious designer I worry about the negative implications that this option may have on the fashion industry and the environment. Small start-up labels like myself would feel pressured to spend large sums of money on production before getting a response from potential buyers and customers. Established brands have the capital to do this as well as the knowledge and influence to make products which will almost automatically sell.

Karl Lagerfeld argues:

"The reality is that you have to give people the time to make their choice, to order the clothes or handbags, and to produce them beautifully so that editors can photograph them. If not, that's the end of everything."

The Kering group, who we love for their commitment to sustainability, aren't going to be switching things up either, claiming it "negates the dream of luxury." What are you thoughts?

Yemzi's next collection will be SS17, to be released during London Fashion Week this September. I have begun the mood board in my sketchbook, some of which can be found on Pinterest.

So this article was supposed to be about LFW AW17 right? I have to admit that I was too busy to attend the shows that I had tickets for but I managed to catch the international showcase at Somerset House. Highlights included a dress by Jared Servano made from banana leaf fibre and meeting the Nigerian twin sister fashion designer duo Gozel Green.
