For the first Sunday of August we bring you dancer Sarah! She's been #TeamYemzi since our AYAO capsule collection (2014) and we even named a pieces from our SS16 range after herRead on...

1. Hey Sarah, please introduce yourself

Hi I'm Sarah Sheppard. I'm a British Zimbabwean, living in Bournemouth, England. I'm twenty four and currently working in marketing however my biggest dream is to be a professional dancer. Unfortunately last March, I sustained tendon damage to my right ankle, I was lucky it was not a break as that would have been ruinous to a future path in dancing. Coming that close to having a dream taken away from you, has really shown me you have to act now! Run for your dreams and catch them, and make it happen for yourself now because you never know what's around the corner with life.

2. What's your main hustle and what's dope about it?

I've not let go of my passion with dance, by putting myself out there through networking, going to events and auditions, I've been able to branch into alternative lines of work, having the pleasure to work alongside inspiring creative minds. I've danced at summer music festivals, in fashion and music videos. This has been a great start to my story and I'm excited for what's ahead.

3. What do you get up to for fun?

I love to just vibes with music and dance around at home, I really enjoy Photography and Creative Design. I have a strong focus in body conditioning so I love researching fitness and nutrition further. I also love being outside, exploring new locations and taking in the beauty of nature. I've recently taken up Freelance Modelling and boxing in my spare time.

4. What 3 thing do you love most about your city?

In Bournemouth we have ten miles of sandy beach, it's a great place to chill and take time out of a busy day. I love the street performers we have performing throughout the year. And also the diversity of people we have that come into Bournemouth.

5. What makes you a Yemzi girl?

I believe my drive, determination and will power, empathy towards the conditions of the world n the people who here and self made happiness make me a Yemzi girl.

6. What's your favourite Yemzi piece?

This was a tough one but I'm going with SS16 Collection Look11, as this is my favourite colour print, and I love the look especially on a cute zip tracksuit.

7. Are you more of a plain or printed type of girl?

To be honest, I'm both! I love the style and cuts of each garment, I think Yemzi has brought character to her collection. You can see Yemzi is a natural at fashion design, the work she continues to produce is phenomenal.

8. Yemzi Black Label or Yemzi Gold Collection?

Yemzi Black is ideal for chilling day wear, and Yemzi Gold is perfect for any going out trips when meeting friends or having a meal and drink. I would even blend both plain and printed designs together especially with the Yemzi Black Label. But I would say Yemzi Gold Collection.

9. Top 3 natural beauty tips?

My three beauty tips are;

  • Use cold water for washing your face.
  • Eat well - regularly and smallish portions. I aim to eat five times a day.
  • Drink fresh teas like lemon or lime and honey, fresh ginger and water beverages either plain water or fruit infused combinations.

10. And finally, what's your favourite quote?

An old Cherokee told his grandson, "My son, there is a battle of two wolves inside us all. One is Evil. It is anger, jealousy, greed, resentment, inferiority, lies and ego. The other is Good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, humility, kindness, empathy and truth. The boy thought about it and asked, "Grandfather, which wolf wins?" The man replied quietly, "The one you feed."
